Skate Park Meeting Minutes

Attendance: Debbie Thompson, Lisa Ortega, Cherie Goodell, Chris Thompson, City Planning Committee Member Bert Purcell and City Manager Roberta Donovan.
FOLLOW-UP BUSINESS:
Donations:
Yard Sale: Sheila Simpson donated a storage unit for the yard sale items. Lisa Ortega will pick dates and times she will be available to accept items. Dates will be published in About Town. A pick-up option will also be provided. A tentative date for the yard sale will be in August.
Printing: Lifeways in Ontario donated printing of skate park fliers and the use of their folding machine. Several committee members bought reams of colored paper.
Cash: A project manager from Lifeways was impressed with the skate park plans and donated $50. A thank you note was sent. Committee members opened the sealed cans that had been in local stores. A total of $85 was collected.
Advertising: The Nyssa Chamber of Commerce office will publish the selections from the skate park meeting minutes in the About Town. Newspaper submission deadline is the 15 th of the month.
Distribution of Fliers: The skate park information fliers will be distributed to all area clubs, groups and organizations.
Pictures: Lisa Ortega showed pictures from the Lincoln City skate park.
NEW BUSINESS:
Skate Park Draft: A preliminary draft was reviewed. Components of the park will be based on the Oregon Trail/Malheur County historical theme, for example a Snake River Run, Owyhee Dam, Jordan Valley volcano/lava beds, Conestoga wagon, etc. Interactive stations using historical facts are also being considered. Chris Thompson will make another draft that offers citizens the opportunity to rearrange components.
OTHER:
The city planning and zoning committee is working on an updated provision for city parks, which will be included in the comprehensive plan. Nyssa and Vale will be sharing an intern student from the University of Oregon who will be writing grants and updating city plans and codes.
Research will be done on Home Depot's playground equipment. Debbie Thompson will contact Idaho Power regarding overhead wires at the park being a safety issue.
Committee members are to document their volunteer time and donations on the appropriate "in-kind" forms. This documentation will be submitted in the grant proposal.
